Put Out into the Deep
Nov 26 2024
Hello, and welcome to the Put Out into the Deep, the newsletter of Building Catholic Futures. This week, we’re excited about a new letter from Pope Francis about the important work of Church historians and why our pastoral practice must be informed by a sense of the generations passed.

On the Renewal of the Study of Church History
"(T)he study and writing of history helps to keep 'the flame of collective conscience' alive. Otherwise, all that remains is the personal memory of facts bound to our own interests or sensibilities, with no real connection to the human and ecclesial community in which we live.
A proper sense of history can help each of us to develop a better sense of proportion and perspective in coming to understand reality as it is and not as we imagine it or would prefer reality to be. Setting aside dangerous and disembodied abstractions, we are able to relate to reality as it summons us to ethical responsibility, sharing and solidarity."
Prayer Requests / Thank You!
This week we have more of a “thanks” than a request! We’ve heard from so many of you that you are not only praying for our work yourselves but gathering friends to pray for us. We could not be more grateful to the BCF community. Your prayers are powerful! “For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.”
Please continue to pray that we may serve God and the Church with joy. When you Contact Us, feel free to let us know how our community can pray for you.
If you received this from a friend, and are not yet a subscriber, click Building Catholic Futures and fill out the Keep in Touch form to receive future updates, and if you know someone who might want to read this week's newsletter, please share it!
And please prayerfully consider helping us meet the financial needs of BCF by using the Donate to BCF form at BuildingCatholic.org.
Duc in altum! Put out into the deep!
